About me
Hi, I'm Hazel,
WitcHazel Gardening & Landscape Services
Gardening has been a hobby and passion of mine since I was a little girl. My parents always had large gardens and I was encouraged to help maintain them and cultivate my own little corner. Every house I have owned myself, I have taken great pleasure and pride in transforming the gardens, which have become selling points when I have moved.
Over the years, family and friends have asked me to help redesign and landscape their gardens, which I have thoroughly enjoyed, so when it came to a change of career, after 30 years as a visiting officer in the civil service, becoming a gardener for a living was a no brainer!
I totally loose myself when I’m gardening, becoming totally immersed in what I’m doing. Not only do I absolutely love it, but the buzz I get seeing the changes I make, even if it’s just removing weeds from a flower bed or pruning an overgrown hedge is so instantly rewarding. It is like magic!
I love meeting new people and challenging myself both physically and mentally, so combining these elements with work I so enjoy couldn’t suit me better. Building a rapport with my regular customers, many of whom are elderly and may not have seen anyone else that week is rewarding in itself.
Having always been rather a tom boy, I never shirk at hard work. There is something about physically aching at the end of the day that reinforces in me that I have done a good days work.
Being a female gardener brings its own challenges which I thrive to overcome but also a certain amount of comfort and trust especially to the elderly, which puts me in a very privileged and unique position.
I take huge pride in everything I do, paying attention to detail, providing high standards of quality, professionalism and value for money but always with a laugh and a smile.
And what better name for my business than Witch Hazel
combining my actual name, a shrub/nut tree, a lady who performs magic and an essential oil/herbal remedy that provides healing qualities seemed very apt.
